Girls Get Science!

Girls Only Summer Camp

June 30th-July 1

Rising Grades 2-6

(the same as our co-ed camps, but for girls only!)

Here at the GrAd Lab, we are doing our best to show more girls that robotics and engineering are super fun for every kid, not just boys. If you've attended our Girls Get Science events, you know how inspiring it is to see lots of girls really into programming or building.

This is the SAME curriculum we deliver in our co-ed classes; we would never! "dumb-down" our offerings for girls. (The Great Adventure Lab is owned by three moms and one dad!)

The only difference between this four-day camp and our other camps is that all of the campers will be girls. Note: Girls are welcome in ALL of our camps and activities.

Our science, robotics and engineering summer camp is so fun, kids have no idea how much they're learning! This year we're offering some AWESOME new classes as well as a few of our time-tested favorites.

We have multiple levels of Lego Robotics, from the introductory level to Mindstorms. We'll also hit the great outdoors with Rockets and Race Cars and spend some time in our Invention Lab creating objects that glow, float and fly. And, we're excited to introduce our campers to the amazing world of 3D printing with our new 3D Printing class.

Campers can sign up for two weeks of camp without repeating projects. Just be sure to pick an A Week and a B Week. The classes are the same, but the projects are different!

Class Descriptions Rising Grades 2-6

Robotics: Children will build and program robots using LEGO® Education’s award-winning WeDo robotics and programming software. Depending on their prior experience, students will either follow step-by-step on-screen instructions to build their robots, and then build a suggested program to get their robots working, while those who are ready to build more on their own will be given a programming and building challenge, (including an all new,  remote control robot!) set by our instructors.  For our older, more advanced campers we have Lego Mindstorms. (rising grades 2-6)

Rockets & Race Cars: an all new summer camp program that incorporates science, technology, engineering, art and just enough math to see us through. We'll be launching rockets, building high-powered cars and more. (rising grades 2-6).

Invention Lab: Students will use electronics and physics to create objects that glow, float and fly! (rising grades 2-6)

Introduction to Video Game Programming:  We've found a great way to get kids started on video game design:Scratch, the super-simple drag-and-drop multimedia programming language designed by MIT's Lifelong Kindergarten Project.  Students will learn how to design and animate their own characters. (rising grades 2-3)

3D Printing:  Campers will sketch their ideas and then use our computers and software to render them into their very own 3D, printable designs. Each child will take home a USB drive with their own printable designs and a 3D printed figure. The ability to make ideas come into real-life objects is sure to thrill every camper, but beware: they may come home asking for a 3D printer of their own! (rising grades 4-6)
